Colón, Christina

Christina Colón is the Spanish teacher at UNMS. She was born in New York but was raised in Puerto Rico. She came back to New York when she was around 13 years old. Ms. Colón attended middle school and high school in Queens. Once in high school, she knew that her career would be in teaching. She had wonderful and encouraging bilingual teachers, whom always pushed her to excel. They helped her through rough times and because of that, she decided she wanted to give back to others what was given to her.

Before becoming a teacher Ms. Colón worked as an administrative assistant. She was then a paraprofessional for 8 years. After working closely with students as a paraprofessional, she knew that she was ready to become a Spanish teacher. She graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor's Degree (Spanish) and a Master's Degree (Education).

Ms. Colón's goal as a teacher is to let her students know that they are important and that they have a voice. Learning a new language opens many doors.

Ms. Colón has been a member of the UNMS community since 2014.
